Osasuna head coach Vicente Moreno expressed his frustration after his side’s 1-2 home defeat to Atlético Madrid, criticizing the referee for failing to show a second yellow card to Puvill.
Puvill pushed Barja to the ground when the Osasuna player was nowhere near the ball. Moreno stated that the red card was clear and inevitable, and called the missed call a major mistake that heavily impacted the match.
“We were already 0-1 down, and after that foul, it became 0-2. The amount of added time was also unacceptable. At this stage of the season, you can’t make errors like that. The referee didn’t do it on purpose, but it shouldn’t happen,” the coach said.
When asked about the two penalty decisions, Moreno commented: “In the first penalty, Javi Galán’s handball had some element of natural body movement, but giving a penalty wasn’t unreasonable. Our overturned penalty was also understandable. The real problem was Puvill’s second yellow card not being shown, and the stoppage time was impossible to accept. Budimir’s incident was not a penalty.”
Discussing the team’s performance, the Osasuna boss highlighted inefficiency: “It’s a question of efficiency. The team gave everything, we played at a high tempo and created many chances.”
On the relegation battle, Moreno added: “The weekend match is obviously a tough one. Everyone must pull together and show what Osasuna is made of.”
