Former Leipzig forward Ademola Lookman opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 15th minute after a handball, and Alexander Sörloth doubled the lead in the 71st minute. Atletico’s Marcos Llorente was sent off with a second yellow card in the 79th minute, but Osasuna’s late consolation from Kike Barja in stoppage time (90+1) came too late to change the outcome.
The defeat at Arsenal in the Champions League semifinals (0-0, 0-1) had been followed by a league loss to Celta Vigo (0-1). Atletico now finish the campaign against Girona and Villarreal, who sit third with a game in hand and a three-point lead over Madrid.
