A major overhaul is underway at VfL Bochum as the club will say goodbye to eleven players before their final home match of the season against Hannover 96 on Saturday at 1 PM. The contracts of captain Matus Bero (30), second-longest-serving professional Erhan Masovic (27), Noah Loosli (29), Marcel Sobottka (32), and Romario Rösch (26) will not be renewed.
In addition, loan players Francis Onyeka (19), Farid Alfa-Ruprecht (20, both from Leverkusen), Kjell Wätjen (20, from Borussia Dortmund), Callum Marshall (21, from West Ham), and Leandro Morgalla (21, from Salzburg) will return to their parent clubs. The purchase option for Morgalla will not be exercised. Meanwhile, Kevin Vogt (34) has announced his retirement, as confirmed earlier.
However, there remains a possibility for defender Loosli and striker Marshall to stay. According to reports from WAZ, negotiations with Loosli have been ongoing for months, and both parties are open to continued collaboration in principle. Loosli has received several offers from Germany and Switzerland but only wants to remain at Bochum as a regular starter. The club is waiting to see how the transfer market develops.
As for Marshall, who has contributed four goals or assists in 15 appearances since January, Bochum would like to keep him. However, a million-euro transfer fee is not feasible, so the decision rests with West Ham. Another loan deal is considered a realistic option for VfL.
